Another year another list of top tracks. This is a curated top 10 list put together for the annual WMAS round-up, basically a summary of the vibe, most played, artists that have been thrashed/stuck in my head for the year 2025. It's 10, there's no numero uno in the bunch, so in no particular order.
I've popped the playlist there for you to give it a listen 🔊👂
Cheekface - Rude World
Something about this song just vibed right when it came out - it's a rude world. People have strong opinions about a lot of things and love getting into it - I have no opinion, baby, you are the boss. To me, it's like saying fuck it, just let shit slide - do you man as long as you're not hurting anyone or something like that. It's Cheekface, so it's likely they could be singing just as much about nothing at all.
It's a damn boppy ska banger that just hits every time it comes on.
It's a rude world (Woo!)
Prof - Bad Time Boy
Featuring Zombie Juice and Meechy Darko of Flatbush Zombies...
I didn't really fuck with Prof for some time - not everyone's cuppa tea either but something about that changed this year haha. There are a few other Prof posts on this site. So I had to get a Prof track in the mix - this isn't my favourite Prof track but man I had this song stuck in my head and on rotation for a bit there, and it came out this year so I get to rep Prof on the list haha - it's not your list.Â
Church & AP - PAK N SAVE
Love to see some new music by these guysis - again, on high-rotation this year and stuck well in the head. No dis to trolley pushers (ay ay aye) but for sure a dis to whoever things this song is about them haha.
Side note/shout out, this crew RNZĹŚ, deadforest and holy moly Dera Meelan🔥🔥 have all been dropping tons of great bangers this year.Â
Josie James - noodle soup
I don't know how this song got into my mix (thanks Release Radar) - but I'm grateful. I def have a few Josie James tracks in the mix now. This one is such a good track. Watch this space I reckon.
OK Go - A Stone Only Rolls Downhill
Love me some OK Go and I reckon they're some of the best songwriters (and obviously music video makers) this one is no exception. Possibly part of an underlying theme in this list I've just realised heh.
And I wish I could say it would all be alright
(It'll all be all right) ⬅️ these little backing vocals are my favourite part.
Hans. - 1004
Off his EP Goldline Melody which is full of some pretty chill tracks - 1004 and See You When I See You are my favs. Just a nice vibe with it all. Dude'd music just has a nice vibe. Look at me, some sort of music critic...Â
Sorry - Echoes
Earlier in the year these guys popped into my mix with Waxwing and I went down a bit of a rabbit-hole. COSPLAY released a little later in the year and it is an album full of some pretty solid tracks - Candle, Life In This Body and Juve are others on high-rotation.Â
Yukimi, Little Dragon - Peace Reign
I don't know why it's Yukimi, Little Dragon now (if you know flick me a YouTube video unpacking it...) but whatever - Anything released by Little Dragon is forever going to get me interested. This song is beautiful- Believe it. Believe it, won't you. Believe it, won't you. I'm trying, but with the state of things... not always that easy. From the album For You - as a whole, it's an ok album.
Dirty Projectors, David Longstreth, stargaze - Uninhabitable Earth, Paragraph One
Not really the most listenable track - kind of an odd choice to put in the tops - but I think it's poignant... am I using that correctly... I should have got AI to write this all.Â
Nice little Bob Marley basline in there, I'm sure if they hear this the estate will sue them. I just love the line "That wealth can be a shield against the ravages" and it really is a pretty good summary of what we're facing. None of this is true (none of this is true)
Again another artist that has their name seperate to the band name... But Dirty Projectors have never been the same since Amber Coffman left
Cool Calm Pete - Mountains
Trying to make sense of it all. New music from Cool Calm Pete?! I'll take it. True to form - quality all-round.Â
That's all - there were/are so many other releases from this year that didn't make this particular list. Most of these I'm keeping to myself for now because they're absolute bangers! And I want to impress cool people next time we go track for track or get the chance to play a few tunes to an empty outskirts with beer in hand, appreciating the vibes dancefloor.
Peace.Â
